What Are Your New Year's Nutrition Plans?

If you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll end up someplace else - Yogi Berra

Make your 2021 HEALTH GOALS clear for yourself

Like the wise quote written above states, if you don’t have goals in mind, you’ll just sort of end up in a place you didn’t really intend on being in. It’s just like starting a road trip for your vacation; if you don’t set up your GPS before you leave, how will you know where you’ll end up? Youwantedto go to Star Wars Galexy’s Edge in Disney World because you really wanted to take selfies with Chewie, but because you didn’t plan on how to get there, you ended up in Idaho. Not the same.

That would really suck.

所以…如果你不做计划or being/staying healthy, you will likely continue to mindlessly eat whatever sounds good to you and in whatever quantities you feel like. Although this might seem like no big deal, there are so many “food distractions” in the world that you could be eating things because they taste good without realizing how harmful they could be to you. If you don’t read labels, ingredient lists, or have clear ideas of what healthy nutrition means- we need to work on this!

Before you panic, understand this:eating a healthy diet does not need to be scary, painful, boring or tons of work in the kitchen.

What kind of health do you want to be in?

When making goals, you should actually take a minute to think about what you’d like. I know you might be thinking “of course I know what I want”, but have you really written out the details? Have you thought about the specifics? What about what types of changes you’d need to make to manifest these desires?

If you’re not sure of what the details could be for yourself, here’s some inspiration:

  • attain a healthy weight for myself

  • improve muscle strength

  • reverse diabetes as much as possible to prevent further disease progression

  • normalize my labs (cholesterol, fatty liver, kidney values, blood sugar, inflammatory markers, etc.)

  • eat healthy/feed my family healthier options

  • exercise and movement

  • find out which supplements will support my health

The best way to know where you’re going is to have a map!

Alrighty- this next part is THE most important part. You have to actually write down what your goals are. I started this years ago after a fellow student in naturopathic school told me about this. She told me about the power in knowing what you want to achieve in your life. She said, even if you just write it down once and never look at it again, you still “spoke your desires” to yourself and the universe. If you read this paper every now and then, it’s that much more energy you actually channel in to it. I’ve been doing this for the last 20 years and I have to say- I don’t often look at my goal list throughout the year. But darned if she wasn’t right- there are very few things I can’t say I haven’t accomplished that I wrote down! Lately I’ve been taping this list to a wall in my closet so when I’m in there ironing, I can look up and be reminded of my goals.

There’s something about this whole process of:

  1. taking time to think about yourself

  2. making decisions about how you will get there

  3. writing all of this down

I made two handouts for you to choose from and use, if you need some inspiration! You candownload it here.

Want to watch this 10 minute live where I explain the above :)
